I read that “there are no challenges, just opportunities”.  This is very much true.  Life throws curves to most of us when we least expect it.  How we act on them says a lot of who we, actually, are.

I am meeting tomorrow an interesting lady in Bethany Beach, Delaware.  She is one of those that took an opportunity when a challenge presented itself.  Her name is Cookie Kerxton.  While undergoing radiation treatment for head and neck cancer, (HNC), Cookie wanted to find a way to ease the financial burden to other patients with HNC who cannot afford the many types of additional expenses incurred throughout and after treatment for HNC.

Courage Unmasked: 911 4 HNC was then conceived by her.  It means “Help for Head and Neck Cancer”.  Its uniqueness is based on the fact that the fund dedicates itself to granting financial aid directly to patients who have or had head and neck cancer.  The fund does not give dollars to research…none!  It supports only individuals and their families in the locations where money is raised.

Cookie is an artist and she invited over 100 artists to sculpt with radiation masks.  Cookie stated “Most people have no idea of how head and neck cancer radiation affects a person’s life, and almost no one knows about the radiation masks used for treatment”.

This event first started in Washington, D.C…..and in September, 2015 Courage Unmasked, will come to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware!!  Already the work is taking place in order for artists to transform radiation masks into art.
