Indian River Inlet…The Scenery…The Beach…The Bridge…Delaware Beaches…

Rt. 1 or Coastal Highway is the road that takes you back and forth from the Delaware Beaches to Ocean City, Maryland or vice versa.  It is a beautiful drive and on a day like today it could not have been better.

If you happen to be on this road you will eventually cross over the Indian River.  This is a river and estuary, approximately 15 miles long, in Sussex County in southern Delaware.

Indian River rises approximately 2 miles southwest of Georgetown and flows east, past Millsboro, its head of navigation.  Then, it enters Indian River Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean south of Cape Henlopen.  The lower 6 miles of the river form a navigable tidal estuary stretching westward from Indian River Bay, which is protected from the open ocean by 2 sand bar peninsulas.

We are in the process of getting another bridge so construction is going on at the moment.

Today I was driving both ways and upon coming back to Rehoboth I stopped my car right on the bridge.  It was such a beautiful early afternoon, the waves were perfect; a few surfers were enjoying the beginning of spring.

I never get tired of this view.  How lucky for all of us that live here to be able to experience it so frequently.
