What’s Happening?…Events…Films…Activities…Delaware Beaches…Ocean City, MD…Delray Beach, Florida…The beaches are busy…

 

Spring forward with lots of events and activities.  Living at the beach means you can be as busy or as lazy as you would want to be.  Following is what is coming to these areas this week:

 

Lewes

Thursday, March 18th  through Sunday, March 21st – Fiddler on the Roof, the beloved family musical will be at the Cape Henlopen High School presented by Space Theater Co. in conjunction with Cape’s Theatre Arts Academy Students.  Beautiful music and extraordinary dancing.  Thursday’s through Saturday’s performances will be at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday it will be at 3:00 p.m.  For more info. please visit www.clearspaceproductions.org.

 

Milton, Delaware (north of Rehoboth and Lewes)

Friday, March 19th – Hands of Harvest Sneak Preview!! – at 7:00 p.m. at the Milton Theater, located at 110 Union Street, Milton.  This is a film event co-sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Milton Historical Society.  This winter series, Delmarva Roots, are held on Fridays and feature films about the rich history of the Delmarva region.

Hands of Harvest is a documentary film that offers a glimpse into a renowned American Industry being kept afloat by foreign labor.  Due to the unwilligness of the younger generation of local women to pick crabs for a living, picking houses on Maryland’s Eastern Shore have relied on Mexican women on seasonal H2-B visas to process the Atlantic blue crab.  Blue crabs are a crucial economic resource, and local watermen are struggling to keep their livelihood and culture intact in the face of imminent demise.  The film will also document the lives of the Mexican women who, in an effort to provide for their families, are ….Running time 56 minutes.  There will be a question and answer after the screening.

 

 Rehoboth Beach

Beginning Thursday, March 18th at Doggies at the Beach located on 18806 John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24) New Puppy and Doggie Classes with a new trainer.  Puppy clases are from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. and doggie classes start at 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Five consecutive weeks.  The trainer is from the Mispillion Kennel Club, http://www.mispillionkc.org.  For more info. please call 302-644-8200 or visit the website www.doggiesatthebeach.com.

Doggies at the Beach has a Discount Vet Vaccination Day.  Put it on your calendar because it will be Saturday, April 10th from 9 a.m. until noon on a first come first served basis and dogs and cats are welcomed. 

Need grooming?  Doggies at the Beach has 2 master groomers on staff.

I use this company for my dog, Addy, for her overnight stays, so I can really recommend them.

 

Another date to put on your calendar is April 24th.  Now, don’t roll your eyes and … o.k. here it is.  A Pet Psychic will be in town at the AmericInn Lodge and Suites.  Her name is Diane Roadcap.  The charge is $50 for 20 minutes; she takes cash only, no credit cards.  If they have 2 dogs in the same household, it will be $20 extra.  If you are interested, please call the hotel at 302-226-0700 and ask to speak to Brenda Luckenbaugh who is the General Mgr.  The hotel is located on 36012 Airport Rd., Rehoboth Beach.

Girls Night Out – Wednesday, March 17th and Wednesday, March 24th – Adults – Come with a friend or just come and meet a new friend.  One session, or both.  A new creation each week to give as a gift or for yourself. 

On 3/17 – Celebrate St. Patty’s Day by creating unique picture frames using fabric, paints, baubles and beads.  $45 for member and $80 for future members. $10 for materials.

On 3/24 – Keepsake Boxes – Gild, decorate, paint and customize.  A box to suit your memories.  Again it is the same price as above.

On Saturday, 3/20 at 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, 3/27 at 10:00 a.m.- Culture and Cuisine – Ages 15 to Adult – Discuss major topics in the arts and culture of the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico; including Puerto Rican Art in its universal context as well as its culture with Jose Weidner-Ahorrio.  Lunch will be provided and recipes will be shared.  $65 for member and $100 for future members.  I might have to attend one of these.  For more information please call the above mentioned telephone or visit the website.

 

Saturday, March 20th – Merchant’s Attic II Garage Sale at the Rehoboth Convention Center on Rehoboth Ave.  From 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

 

Ocean City, Maryland

Friday, March 19th through Sunday, March 21st – Home, Condo & Garden Show at the Ocean City Convention Center located on 4001 Coastal Highway in Ocean City.  Tel. 410-213-8090.  Website. www.oceanpromotions.com. Ideas on decorating, remodeling, building or accessorizing your home.  What’s new in all aspects of home and garden, all in one roof.

The event will include the Health Craft Show, a “Fine Arts Row”, door prizes, raffle drawing for Temple Bat Yam and more.  Friday is from Noon until 6 p.m., Saturday is from 10 until 6 p.m. and on Sunday is from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Admission.

On that same date at the same times and at the same location is the Arts & Crafts Fair.  Artists showcasing their most creative and unique crafts, gifts and decor for your home or condo.  Admission includes the Home, Codo & Garden Show.

 

Delray Beach, Florida

Monday, March 15th – at 7:00 p.m. at Murder on the Beach Mystery Book Store, Randy Wayne White will signing his new novel, Deep Shadow, the 17th in his Doc Ford series.  A onetime veteran fishing guide, he lives in an old house built on an Indian mound and spends much of his free time windsurfing, playing baseball, and hanging out at Doc Ford’s Sanibel Rum Bar and Grille on Sanibel Island, Florida.  Deep Shadow-When his 2 friends are trapped under a remote Florida lake, Doc Ford finds 2 murderers waiting for him on the shore, intent on finding….. The Mystery Book Store is located on 273 NE 2nd Ave, (Pineapple Grove District) in Delray.  Tel. 561-279-7790 and the website is www.murderonthebeach.com.

On Thursday, 3/18th with a rain date of Friday, 3/19th – It is Savor the Avenue – Award Winning Grand Table Event.  Atlantic Avenue is transformed into the longest dining table in Florida.  18 participating restaurants offering prixe fix menus and wine pairings by Santa Rita Wines.  For more info. please call 561-279-1380 ext. 3 or visit www.bocamag.com, www.floridatable.com or www.downtowndelraybeach.com.

This is how it works.  By going into the websites above mentioned you will be able to see which restaurants will be participating and their menus.  You will then call the particular restaurant that caught your attention and make a reservation.  There is limited seating and even though it was said that you needed to reserve by Friday, March 12th, you can still try. 

The location is Atlantic Ave. from Swinton Ave. to East 5th Ave.  Charity: The Office Depot Foundation which strives to make a positive impact on children, families and communities.  The restaurants will be donating $5 for every reservation made for the event.

How to Check in:  You must first check-in with the host/hostess of the restaurant you made your reservation with to receive your entry bracelet.  This will allow you to attend the cocktail party at 5:30 p.m. and to receive a ticket for one complimentary cocktail.   Your entry bracelet will be checked prior to seating at the Grand Table at the assigned area for the restaurant that you chose to dine with at 6:30 “sharp” for the Grand Toast.

5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 – 10:00 p.m. – It will be the grand debut of Downtown Delray’s Worthington Place.  Cocktails at 5:30 p.m., then at 6:30 p.m. is the Grand Toast at the Grand Tables, sponsored by Palm Bay International and Marquis de la Tour. 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Dining, 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. Art Auction in Worthing Park and 9:00 – Midnight is After party sponsored by Il Bacio Lounge and Russian Standard Vodka.

Saturday, 3/20 – Green Market at 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. – In the street on SE 4th Ave., just South of Atlantic Ave. – Local produce, baked goods, food and music.

Saturday, 3/20 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sunday, 3/21 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. is the 5th Annual Beach Volleyball Tournament at the beach adjacent to Anchor Park in Delray Beach.
