Slowing Down a Bit at the Delaware Beaches, and Ocean City, Maryland…Not a Chance…Upcoming Events…and Activities…

 

If I say that my beach towns are slowing down some this week, it is because we have been going from one festival to another, one race to another and one fundraising event to another, and in between, we even managed to include a Nor’ Easter.  So we are catching our breaths in order to get ready for the holidays.  Yes, they are around the corner.

 

Lewes

The town of Lewes is a little quiet this week but some of the events that I am looking forward to are:

Thursday, December 3rd – Celebration of Lights at Beebe Medical Center at 5 p.m.

Thursday, December 3rd – First Thursdays – Celebrate Lewes Life – Local merchants host evening shopping with live streetfest, restaurant entertainment, kids story time, demonstrations, and extended store hours. 6 – 8 p.m.  For more info., please call the Lewes Chamber of Commerce toll free 877-465-3937 or 302-645-8073.

Friday until Sunday, December 4th – 6th – is the Children’s Beach House Benefit Art Exhibit and Sale.  For details visit: www.cbhinc.org.

Saturday, December 5th – Is the 3rd Annual Christmas Boutique from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., sponsored by Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park, Seaside Nature Center.

Saturday, December 5th – Lewes Historical Society’s House Tour from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  There will be 8 homes on the tour, plus the Historical Society’s buildings.  One of the houses, part of which dates to before the Revolution will be included.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the tour.  For info., please call 302-645-7670 or visit www.historiclewes.org.

Saturday, December 5th – Lewes Christmas Parade at 5 p.m., followed by the tree lighting and caroling at the Zwaanendale Park and reception in the Fisher-Martin House.  For info., please call 302-645-8073 or visit www.leweschamber.com.

Tuesday, December 8th – Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild and Beseme Bistro on Market and 2nd Streets present Duets from 7 – 8:30 p.m.  It will be a night of beautiful music, incredible food and interesting stories.  For reservations, please call 302-645-8108.

 

Near Lewes, closer to Milton, Delaware

Saturday, December 12th – Concert by the Southern Delaware Choral Society.  This season they will be singing a portion of J.S. Bach’s Magnificat, Mendelssohn’s Magnificat, written as a prodigy at age 12 and selected choruses from Handel’s Messiah, including the famous Hallelujah Chorus.  Location:  Eagles Nest at 7 p.m.

If you cannot see this amazing performance on Saturday, then on Sunday, the 13th at 3 p.m. at Woodbridge High School in Bridgeville, you will be able to get that chance.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for children and students. They can be purchased at the following locations:

Near all the Delaware Beaches, in Georgetown

Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. – The Nutcracker at Delaware Tech on Rt. 18 in Georgetown.  $20 for adults and $15 for students and Delaware Tech staff.   For info. call 302-858-5475.

 

Rehoboth Beach

There are plenty of restaurants in the area offering Thanksgiving Day lunch and dinner but I have gotten information on the following 2 restaurants, so if you are in the area and not cooking then take a look:

Saketumi, located on 18814 Ocean Highway or Rt. 1 has “East meets West” – It is an all you can eat dining experience from 12 until 8 p.m.  Some of the items available will be: soups, sushi and raw bar, meats like prime rib, whole roasted pig, fresh roasted turkey.  Spring rolls, spaghetti and meatballs and burger sliders and chicken fingers for the young ones.  Desserts like fondue, cheesecake and pastries.  $2.00 Mimosas and Bloody Marys.  It is $28.95 for adults and under 12 the charge will be $10.95.  Call 302-645-2818 for reservations.

Cafe Sole, located on 44 Baltimore Ave., tel 302-227-7107 is inviting you to their Thanksgiving that will start at 12:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  $28.00 and will include 4 courses, 4 entree selections.  Please make your reservations since this is a popular restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.

Besides their Thanksgiving dinner, they also offer on Wednesdays a half price dinner entree and special dessert pricing, served from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Sunday Brunch is from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Saturday, November 21st – Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.  Start time is 7 a.m. at Rehoboth Ave., and the Boardwalk.  Website is www.rbmarathon.com.  Registration and timing-please visit www.lin-mark.us.  Pick up your packet on Friday, Nov. 20th between 2-8 p.m. at Rehoboth Beach Running Co. on 251 Rehoboth Ave.  Beneficiaries are the Make-A-Wish-Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. and the Rehoboth Beach Fire Dept.

Friday, November 27th – The Tree Lighting in downtown Rehoboth, at the Bandstand.  It is a hometown tradition with plenty of Holiday songs.  6-7 p.m. and you may also want to visit www.downtownrehoboth.com for more information:

Downtown Gift Certificates are accepted at over 200 shops, restaurants, and businesses.  They help our independent Mom & Pop businesses and locally owned franchises.  You can purchase gift certificates by calling the Main Street office at 302-227-2772 or at the Thunderbird Gallery on the corner of Rehoboth Ave. and Second Street or in person at the Main Street office at the Convention Center Parking Lot on 229 Rehoboth Ave.  It is the little cottage with blue shutters.  Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. or online at the above website.  In the website you will be able to see the participating merchants and also you can check the hours for Santa’s House, which were just posted online, or call 302-227-2233.

12/6  Community Unity Spaghetti Dinner – Citizen of the Year Award will be announced.

12/7  Christmas Parade – You don’t want to miss that one.  I hope it is not too cold.

Friday, November 27th and Saturday, November 28th – It is the 15th Annual Southeastern Delaware Artist Studio Tour.  This event is one of my favorites.  Our local artists open their studios to the public.  You will be able to talk to them and see what they are all about.  It is a free tour but you can purchase tickets as a donation for $10 each or 3 for $25 for their Art in the Hat Raffle.  Tickets must be purchased by 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th.  Each artist has donated a work of art and you might be the lucky winner of a piece of their work.  Please go to www.artstudiotour.com or call Justin Cavagnaro at 302-732-0161 or Damon Pla at 302-537-6945.  Please note that this free tour is provided by the artists.  A portion of their fees, along with all proceeds raised from the Art in the Hat Raffle will be used to further arts education in the community.

Near Bethany Beach, in Ocean View

Saturday, December 5th at 7:30 p.m. – The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra will present Holiday Joy.  A musical celebration of seasonal favorites, with Julien Benichou as the Music Director.  Guest artists are Amy Lynn Call, Soprano and Brian Mig Chu, Baritone.  Location is Mariner’s Bethel Church on Rt. 26th and Central Ave.  For more info. and tickets, please call 888-846-8600.  Adults $35 and students $10.

 

Ocean City, Maryland

Wednesday, November 19th until January 2nd, 2010 is the now famous and not to be missed Winterfest of Lights at Townwide, Inlet and Northside Park 127th St.  Please call 800-Ococean or visit www.ococean.com. Sundays to Thursdays 5:30 p.m until 9:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 5:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

People still do ask me: What is there to do at the beaches after the summer?  Hmmm….I might have to go to the city to relax…
